In An Ingredient
Emergency....Try These
Out

Now that you know a bit about crock pots and cooking strategies, here are some helpful ingredient equivalents/substitutions for those emergency situations where you do not have something for your meal:

1 tbs cornstarch (for thickening) = 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour

1 cup of sugar = 1 cup of packed brown sugar OR 2 cups of sifted powdered sugar

1 cup of honey = 1 1/4 cups of sugar PLUS 1/4 cup of water

1 cup of corn syrup = 1 cup of sugar PLUS 1/4 cup of water

2 cups of tomato sauce = 3/4 cup of tomato paste PLUS 1 cup of water

1 cup of tomato juice = 1/2 cup tomato sauce PLUS 1/2 cup of water

1 small onion (chopped) = 1 tsp of onion powder OR 1 tbsp of dried minced onion

1 tsp of dry mustard = 1 tbsp of prepared mustard

I hope that these ingredient substitutions can help turn a disaster into something manageable!!
